Citrus Melon Martini

Anyone looking for Thanksgiving cocktail ideas on the internet has certainly seen her share of apple cider martinis, pumpkin spice martinis, and/or drinks with ingredients like cinnamon sticks, fresh thyme or Fireball whisky. I have nothing against these types of drinks, but every lifestyle blog post seems to contain these recipes this week, and it’s getting old.  So I’m bucking the Autumn trend and going with a fresh, fruity drink for this Thanksgiving holiday. It may remind you of Spring rather than Fall, but there’s nothing wrong with thinking about longer days, warm breezes and mild temperatures. Behold, the Citrus Melon Martini.

2 1/2 ounces Deep Eddy’s lemon vodka
3/4 ounce watermelon schnapps
2 ounces Jose Cuervo Light Margarita mix
1-2 ounces flavored club soda (I prefer Deer Park Sparkling Raspberry Lime)

Add the first three ingredients into a shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a martini glass, then add club soda. Garnish with a lemon twist and a watermelon chunk if you can find a decent watermelon this time of year.

If you think this drink doesn’t pair well with pumpkin pie or sweet potatoes (and it kind of doesn’t), enjoy it before the big meal, while you are filling up on Thanksgiving Day appetizers.  I hope you are thankful for this and many other things this year. I know I am!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Who cares if it goes with the meal? It sounds fantastic. One of these days I will go out and buy the necessities to stock a bar. How about a blog post on what the average person should buy to have a bar that is ready for any sort of mixed drink?

Thanks Monica. And you, Dave and the family, have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

    xo,

That’s a great idea, Fran and I will definitely get on that after I snap out of my food coma from yesterday! Hope you have a great Thanksgiving with your kids this weekend. xoxoxoxoxo
