January Blues Buster

Add some color to your January!
Add some color to your January!

I must apologize to all of you cocktail aficionados for the lack of drink recipes lately.  Just because the holidays are over doesn’t mean people stop drinking!  But I always seem to fall into this winter funk after January 1.  All the festivities of the past couple months have concluded, decorations are down, the malls are deserted and family has dispersed.  Not much celebrating going on in January.  And the month seems to drag on interminably.

But I am not here to bring you all down- there is plenty to be happy about as we trudge on through the winter months.  To me, one of the downers in the month of January is the lack of color and vibrancy.  All those Christmas ornaments and lights are tucked away, leaving us with drab brown landscapes and gray cloudy skies.  That’s one of the reasons I thought a colorful blue drink might help cheer things up.  The bright hue of blue curacao in this cocktail adds a little boost to my evening routine and my mood.  Here’s the recipe for a tasty blue martini I call the January Blues Buster- it will wake up your eyes and your palette!

1 ½ ounces citrus vodka

1 ounce each triple sec and blue curacao

1 ½ ounces sour mix (the homemade mix is best, but use what you have)

2-3 ounces Champagne (the drier the better)

Add the first four ingredients into a shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously.  Pour into a martini glass, then top with champagne.

The blues buster could be just what you need this time of year.  If it’s bright colors you desire, next week I promise a grenadine-laced concoction that will make firetrucks look bland.  Enjoy!

Thanks for the uplifting post ! I needed that, especially after this January, which feels particularly bleaker than normal. I can’t wait to try this ! Yes we can beat the winter blues !

I agree- it IS bleaker than normal! But I am an optimist and I believe that in the end it will all work out for the best. Cheers, my friend!
