Whether or not you enjoy watching football, you probably have plans to watch the Super Bowl this Sunday. Some people watch for the commercials, some watch so they can take part in the conversation at the water cooler on Monday (or Tuesday if they’re hungover), and some watch because the Super Bowl is the culmination of a season’s worth of Sunday match-ups, not to mention the ultimate sports championship.
Regardless of why you watch, you WILL watch even just the tiniest amount of football this weekend. And whether you watch at home with your pets, or with a massive group of your closest friends, you will need to eat and drink before and during the game.
If you’re going to a Super Bowl party, you can impress your fellow party goers with a pitcher of cocktails instead of the more traditional six pack or bottle of wine. These batch drinks don’t take much extra effort and they are a delightful change from the routine. Go buy your appetizer from Trader Joe’s and spend your recipe-making time on a batch of drinks!
Watermelon Sangria
One 750 ml bottle dry white wine
¾ cup watermelon schnapps
½ cup white cranberry juice
Watermelon balls, limes and lemons
Combine all ingredients (including fruit) and stir well. Cover and refrigerate for at least four hours. Serve over ice.
Grapefruit Crush
1 ½ cups Deep Eddy’s grapefruit vodka
¾ cup triple sec
3 ½ cups pink grapefruit juice
Pour all ingredients into a pitcher and stir. Add ice and fresh grapefruit slices to pitcher just prior to serving.
Coconut Colada Punch
1 cup spiced rum
1 cup coconut rum
Juice of three limes
1 cup peach nectar
1 ½ cup pineapple juice
¾ cup cranberry juice
Pour all ingredients into a pitcher and stir. Add ice and fresh pineapple chunks to pitcher just prior to serving.
It’s pretty obvious that all three of these batch drinks will be SUPER easy to make. I personally think that bringing a pitcher of cocktails to a party shows you planned ahead and cared enough to show up with something unique and delicious. So get on out to your local market and/or liquor store and secure those ingredients before the mad rush on Sunday morning. You can thank me later.
