Strawberry Collins

Anyone with a working knowledge of the differences between men and women knows that when it comes to alcoholic beverages, there can be quite a gender gap.  Women fancy a well-crafted cocktail and men can get by on beer or straight whiskey.  Generalization?  Of course!  But you have to admit, you probably know more women than men who sip on Cosmopolitans and more men than women who knock back Jack Daniels.
In my household, for example, my husband has a gin and tonic every night.  Every. Single. Night.  And even before I started this blog, I would enjoy a different cocktail almost every evening.  I sometimes would fixate on one drink or another, but I generally like to mix things up and rarely have the same drink two nights in a row.  And as you may have noticed from my posts, I usually stick with various flavors of vodka and rum, with tequila a distant third.  But I recently found a recipe on a caterer’s menu whose main ingredient was gin and I thought I’d give it a try (after putting my own spin on it, of course).  It’s more involved than a gin and tonic, but easy to make and a nice refreshing summer beverage.  It also contains fresh fruit and fresh squeezed lime juice, so you really can’t go wrong.  This may be the drink to bridge that gender gap!

Here’s the recipe-
Strawberry Collins
4-5 very ripe strawberries
2 oz gin (I used Bombay)
Juice of 1 ½ limes (about 2 oz if you don’t have fresh limes)
1 oz simple syrup
Club soda
Muddle strawberries in the bottom of a rocks glass until they are almost liquidy with only a few small chunks (I used a fork and it worked really well).  Fill glass with ice, then add the next three ingredients.  Top with a couple ounces of club soda and a wedge of lime.  Delish!

Yes, I admit it- I’m a guy… and I like my drinks the same as I like my women- The same one. Every. Night. Of course if that bothers anyone, I can start looking for something new and exciting to try…
