Perhaps you all were hoping for a chocolate martini recipe for Valentine’s Day? Sorry, I just couldn’t do it- too cliché. But in order to honor this special “holiday” in some way, may I present to you the recipe for something vaguely similar and which also has a bit of chocolate in it. An adult root beer float! I made my first ever the other night and I have to say, it disappeared in about four minutes. And that included licking all of the chocolate syrup out of the martini glass. This root beer float is extremely simple to make and even has a little carbonation to it (or was that just my imagination?) Dr. McGillicuddy’s may not be available at all liquor stores, but I haven’t tried this recipe with root beer schnapps so I can’t personally recommend it as a substitute. And if you have never had RumChata liqueur, what are you waiting for??!! It tastes like a cinnamon-y light cream spiked with the perfect amount of rum. It’s not as heavy as Bailey’s Irish Cream and it is a tasty addition to so many cocktails. Don’t you worry, stick around and you will see plenty of recipes here that include this sweet libation.
Here’s the recipe- it’s so easy!
Adult Root Beer Float
Equal parts Dr. McGillicuddy’s root beer liqueur and RumChata cream liqueur
Pour ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice. Drizzle martini glass with chocolate syrup before straining the mixture into the glass.
Just like Lay’s potato chips, you may not be able to have just one. But who’s eating chips on Valentine’s Day? Not me- we’re having lobster tails at home. This year will mark our 20th anniversary, so we won’t be joining the hordes of young lovers eating overpriced meals at over-crowded restaurants this weekend. Our idea of a nice romantic Valentine’s Day dinner is a mouth-watering meal of lobster tails and butter alone at home. Or should I say, just the three of us: my husband, me and our son Sam. I should have never let him try lobster years ago, maybe he’d still believe it tasted like the name I gave it, the “bugs of the ocean.”
No matter who you spend Valentine’s Day with, I guarantee there will be love in the air- whether it’s due to your significant other, your kids or your cocktail is anyone’s guess.
The tails look AbFab! And I’ll always take anything with Rum Chata, it is ZZZ best!
Agreed, Mr. Chatasky!
