If you haven’t noticed from previous posts, the weather affects my moods A LOT. Every. Day. Of. The. Year. It’s one of my traits that I’d like to change, or at least work on, but I’m better at talking about wanting to change and improve myself than I am at actually doing something about it. Talk and complain, complain and talk. I complain about the weather when there’s absolutely nothing I can do about it. And when the world bestows upon us a sunny, hot, humidity-free day in April (typically a wet, mild month here in PA), well, I am just over the moon. Even though Tuesday was certainly a fluke, most likely a unique event for this time of year, that wonderfully pleasant weather day has me thinking of the sand in my toes and an umbrella drink in my hand. My family and I are planning a trip to the Florida Keys this summer and I am already there in my mind. I can visualize the larger than usual array of cocktails I will be enjoying: Hemingway daiquiris, mai tais, pina coladas….ahhhh, I can taste them now.
Another cocktail that reminds me of the Keys is my Key Lime Pie Martini. I wouldn’t say it tastes just like Key Lime Pie, but it will remind you of that lusciously tart, rich dessert, but with less calories- bonus! And if you’re not a fan of Key Lime Pie, the drink will at least remind you of warm breezes, classic sunsets and the tropical state of mind that is Key West. I’ve enjoyed this recipe for awhile now, it’s about time I shared it with you.
Key Lime Pie Martini
2 ounces vanilla vodka
1/2 ounce triple sec
1 ounce pineapple juice
1/2 ounce Rose’s lime juice
Juice of half a lime
Add all ingredients to a shaker filled with ice, shake vigorously, then strain into a martini glass (rimmed with graham cracker crumbs if you want the full effect).
As always with Thirsty Gals recipes, if you don’t have a certain ingredient, substitutions are OKAY! I actually used vanilla rum instead of the vodka when I made this cocktail the other night, and it was still delightful. I have also used sour mix in the past, but since I’m out, I used fresh lime juice, which made the drink slightly less sweet. We do what we have to do for the sake of our craft (Yeah, okay…..) As always, enjoy!
