Hurricane Martini

Hello all- I hope you are hanging in there, whether the quarantine restrictions in your area are easing or not.  Here in the Philadelphia suburbs, we are still on lockdown.  But I’m feeling like things may be changing soon.  Maybe it’s wishful thinking, but I feel like we’re on the other side of this thing.  What do you think?

We’ve been watching The Last Dance at my house recently- the 10 episode documentary about Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls’ last championship season and everything leading up to it.  Say what you will about Michael Jordan- and anyone who follows sports has an opinion of the man- he is an extremely upbeat person.  He said he always tries to turn a negative into a positive.  He said this in the episode where his father was murdered. Then the press published salacious stories about the murder’s possible connection to Michael’s gambling.  If you ever want to see the negative side to life in the spotlight, watch this series.

In any event, with Michael’s positive attitude as my guide, here are some super great things that have happened during the COVID crisis:

  • My kids have been home A LOT
  • My daughter cooks fantastic meals almost every night
  • I have spent less than $50 on gas in the last two months
  • I’ve been doing virtual happy hours with lots of friends that I haven’t seen in ages
  • As I’ve mentioned previously, my husband and I are both still gainfully employed and we are all healthy

There are many more things I am grateful for, but you came here for a drink recipe.  It’s happy hour somewhere, right?

So my latest drink of choice is called a Hurricane Martini.  It’s like a Pat O’Brien’s Hurricane that’s super strong and has no ice to water it down.  If you like dark rum, you will love this!

Hurricane Martini

1 oz Myer’s dark rum

1 oz spiced rum

1 oz light Bacardi rum

1 oz grenadine

1 oz orange juice

Juice of half a lime

Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously.  Strain into a martini glass and add a lemon wedge or an orange slice if desired.

I hope you like this cocktail as much as you like Mike.  Those of us who followed sports in the 90’s will get that reference.  Hang in there, friends!

I’ve always been a big Myers and OJ fan, so I’ll have to give this a try! I do like strong drinks!

We all need strong drinks now too, Georgia- I think you’ll like this one!

This is right up my alley. Sounds delicious, But I only have one kind of rum…must work on that!

It will still taste good with only one kind of rum, but you won’t be transported to The Big Easy without the Myer’s dark!
